This is a blog site set up to enable people to discuss the true (possibly) history of the town of Stornoway. Stornoway, on the island of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, is the main settlement of the island chain and as such has played a large and influential part in shaping these islands. From the time of the Roman settlement of the town as a major trading hub, to the Dark Age expansion of the Viking empire; and from the Renaissance period (most notably William Shakespeares time spent working in an Inn on North Beach), through to the Age of Enlightenment and of course the great days of Empire, when Victorian Stornoway played a huge role in establishing the British Empire, these time periods will all be covered in great and fascinating detail by Stornoway’s greatest historians.
